Cuttack: A young man, Shaktikant Sahu of Bhubaneswar’s Nayapalli area, went missing after reportedly jumping into the Mahanadi from the Mundali barrage in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Friday.
According to sources, Shaktikant left home last night following a dispute with his family. He was reportedly under a huge debt. It is suspected that he jumped into the river after parking his car on the bridge. It was the abandoned car which drew the attention of locals, who then alerted the Fire department.
Following which, Fire Service personnel from Baranga along with an ODRAF team began a search operation at around 7-8 am.
Meanwhile, police arrived at the scene and informed the youth’s family. A purported suicide note along with two mobile phones was recovered from the vehicle.
Police have seized the car and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
Confirming that Saktikant left home last night, his family said that he knew how to swim. He, however, was yet to be traced till filing of this report.
