Koraput: Police on Thursday arrested a youth for alleged rape of a minor girl in Odisha’s Koraput district.
The arrested youth has been identified as 20-year-old Santosh Sarangi of Koraput town while the girl is a student of Class IX of a school in Jeypore, said Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jeypore Town police station in the district.
After the minor girl went missing from the house, her parents had lodged a complaint at the police station. During investigation, the police came to know that Santosh had kidnapped the girl and taken her to Rayagada.
After tracing Santosh from his mobile phone calls and other sources, the police pinpointed his location. A police team from Koraput with the help from their Rayagada counterparts conducted a raid on the place where he had kept the girl on the day.
During the raid, the police rescued the girl and arrested Santosh. They sent the girl student for medical examination and later handed her over to her family.
During questioning, Santosh admitted to have raped the girl after kidnapping her. The police have registered a case and forwarded him to court, the IIC said.
