Phulbani: A youth was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a girl inside the hostel of Sarangad High School in Kandhamal district.
He has been identified as Achyutananda Sahoo, a resident of Puruna Sahi in Sarangad village.
According to sources, the girl, a Plus III student, had gone to a nearby village to take part in Raja festivities along with her friends on Friday. Sahoo, a local youth, asked her to accompany him. However, she refused and went to her friend’s house at Salaguda village and spent the night there.
The next morning, an autorickshaw arrived at the village where the girl was staying. The driver, hired by Sahoo, told the girl that the vehicle was sent by her parents to take her back home.
The accused came on a motorcycle, intercepted the autorickshaw midway near the school and asked the girl to come with him. When the girl tried to escape by running towards the hostel near the school, the accused caught hold of her, took her to the hostel and raped her.
Later, the victim’s family members lodged a complaint following which police swung into action and managed to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, the victim has been sent for medical examination.
