Sonepur: In a shocking incident, Youth Congress leader Rajesh Mishra was found dead with gunshot wound at his residence in Bhagabati Nagar area of Odisha’s Sonepur district.
Mishra was a member of the District Congress Committee and an active leader of the youth wing of the national party.
Preliminary information said Mishra was suspected to have died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself in the head with his licensed revolver in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Family members and neighbours informed the police after hearing a gunshot from the house. Police personnel immediately rushed to the site and recovered the licensed revolver from the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police said the circumstances that led to the incident are yet to be ascertained but prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide. It remains unclear whether Mishra took the extreme step due to personal reasons or any other factors.
Investigators are questioning family members, relatives and close associates as part of the ongoing inquiry. All possible angles are being examined by the investigators to establish the truth behind the death of the youth leader, police said.
