Sambalpur: A youth was found dead near a temple on Fisheries Road in Sambalpur Town Police Station area on Wednesday morning amid indications that he was brutally murdered.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place near Pataneshwari Temple under the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station late on Tuesday night. The incident came to light when the body lying in a pool of blood was spotted by locals in the morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gopal Bansal alias Chintu, a resident of Tiwari Gali in Sambalpur town.
On being informed, a police team visited the spot and initiated a probe. They have detained two persons for questioning in connection with the incident, while the motive behind the crime is yet to be established.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the youth was murdered, although the exact sequence of events leading to the crime is still being verified.
Police said more details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses and after the post-mortem report is received.
