Bhubaneswar: In a ghastly incident, a youth was allegedly hacked to death over theft of a bicycle at a village in Odisha’s Khurdha district.
Sources said the incident took place at Andilo village under Balianta Block on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The deceased has been identified as Soumyaranjan Bhoi alias Milu.
The accused, identified as Tarun Bhoi of the same area, has been arrested and a sword reportedly used in the crime seized by the police.
Locals said the victim was attacked and killed by the accused with a sword on the suspicion of stealing a bicycle. Two others, including the mother of the deceased, were critically injured while trying to save the youth.
Soon after the incident, locals overpowered Tarun and informed the Balianta police station. A police team rushed to the spot and seized the body of Soumyaranjan and sent the injured persons to the Capital Hospital for treatment.
While Tarun was arrested, the police also seized the sword used in the crime. Further investigation is in progress.
