Khurda: A youth was killed and his brother critically injured in an attack by a group of miscreants at a village in Odisha’s Khurda district on Sunday.
The incident took place at the Sanakumari village under Bolgarh block of the district. The deceased was identified as Bipin Rout, while his brother Bikram Rout sustained grievous injuries in the attack, sources said.
The two brothers were near a temple in the village when the miscreants stormed the area and mounted an attack with sharp weapons. Both were chased and attacked.
The miscreants caught Bipin near a bridge on Sunakhala road and repeatedly attacked him with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot.
As the miscreants fled the scene after committing the crime, locals and relatives rescued Bikram and sent him to the hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
After getting information, police personnel from Bolgarh rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The attackers are yet to be caught.
While the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, past enmity is suspected to have led to the incident.
