Puri/Bhubaneswar: The Satyabadi Police in Puri on Thursday arrested a youth after he surrendered in the police station and confessed the murder of his beloved whose body was recovered inside the forest near Malipada under Chandaka Forest Division on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The arrested youth has been identified as Judhistir Swain of Satyabadi area.
According to police, the family of the deceased had lodged a complaint with the Satyabadi police on December 15 on the missing of their kin since December 13.
Acting on the complaint, police had begun an investigation. In the meanwhile, the family members, while searching the room of their missing kin, found the document about her marriage with Judhistir in February next year, and informed the Satyabadi Police who went to his house of the youth in Satyabadi area and found him absent. Police later detained his family members for interrogation. However, Judhistir surrendered before the police on Thursday morning and confessed to his crime.
Narrating the incident, the accused told the police that after abducting his beloved from her house on December 13, he brought her to the forest near Malipada village on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in the evening where he strangulated her and then beheaded her with a knife and hid the body inside a bush.
Acting on his statement, a team of Satyabadi police arrived at the Chandaka police station and recovered the body of the woman inside the forest.
The body will be sent for post mortem to ascertain whether the deceased before her murder was raped by the accused or there are other persons involved in the rape and murder, police said.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have registered a rape and murder complaint with the Satyabadi police.
