Bhubaneswar: Mutilated body of a youth was found near the railway tracks close to Poonama Gate area in Bhubaneswar on Thursday with his family alleging that he was murdered.
The deceased was identified as Swaraj Behera, a resident of Gosagareswar Chowk in Old Town area of the state capital. Locals reportedly spotted the body with deep wounds and cuts on his back and body and subsequently informed the deceased’s family.
While the exact cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained, family members of the youth alleged that he was brutally attacked and murdered as his body bore deep injury marks of a sharp weapon. He was probably murdered somewhere else and the body thrown near the railway tracks to give an impression of suicide, they claimed.
His cousin said the family members have filed a police complaint and once his call records and CCTV footage are examined, a clear picture would emerge.
Another local who helped recover the body from the railway track told reporters that the back of Swaraj’s head had deep cuts which indicated that he could have been attacked with a sharp weapon like sword. However, the rest of the body had scratches with another wound near the abdomen.
Family members of the deceased further claimed that they are caught between two police stations over jurisdiction issues. The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Airfield Police are trying to pass the responsibility, they claimed.
