Mumbai: Amid the ongoing insider-outsider debate in Bollywood, actress Vaani Kapoor opened up about her journey in the industry as an outsider.
Emphasising on the need to be one’s own cheerleader in the industry as an outsider, Vaani said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan: “You have to be your biggest cheerleader in this industry. Especially when you are an outsider and don’t have a support system. You don’t have uncles and aunties and chachas and chachis who care for us and root for us. I’m also bad at networking.”
Vaani, who made her Bollywood debut with ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ in 2013, thanked Yash Raj Films (YRF) for believing in her and launching her as an actress.
“The people and the studio that found me — Yash Raj — are the ones who believed in me. They’ve been like a family. Any actor who signs up with them will vouch for it — you feel protected, like you’re in the right hands,” she said.
While talking about the darker side of the industry, Vaani said she never became a victim of casting couch, thanks to YRF who made her feel secure.
Vaani will next be seen in the crime thriller ‘Mandala Murders’, where she plays the role of a witty and honest investigative officer.
“In a quaint, mysterious town of Charandaspur, where fate, myth, and murder entwine, detectives Rea Thomas and Vikram Singh unravel a chilling conspiracy of ritualistic killings tied to a centuries-old secret society,” reads the film’s official synopsis, according to IMDb.
The show, which also features Surveen Chawla, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Jameel Khan in key roles, will premiere on Netflix on July 25.
