Yuvraj Singh Arrested, Then Released On Interim Bail; Here Are Details
Chandigarh: Former Team India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was released on interim bail after being arrested in Haryana on Sunday for making a caste-based remark on fellow-cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal during an Instagram live session with Rohit Sharma last year.
Hansi-based lawyer and activist Rajat Kalsan had filed an FIR against the 40-year-old cricketer under various sections of IPC and SC/ST Act.
“Hansi SP Nitika Gahlout informed here today that Yuvraj joined the investigation as per directions of the court with the investigation officer today. The SP said he was released on interim bail after the arrest. She said that the police had already recovered the phone of the cricketer,” Chandigarh-based newspaper The Tribune reported.
Kalsan alleged that Yuvraj made an objectionable remark while referring to Chahal.
Yuvraj, a two-time World Cup winner and a cancer survivor, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking quashing of the FIR while pleading innocence in the case.
He had faced a barrage of comments criticizing him for the comment during an Instagram session on June 3, 2020, following which he issued an apology.
“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” he had said.
This was the second FIR on the incident. In February this year, a Dalit advocate had filed an FIR against Yuvraj.
