Mumbai: Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal has filed a defamation case against Taniya Chatterjee following her viral claim about receiving a message from him on Instagram.
The controversy erupted after a video of the actress-influencer speaking about the alleged interaction surfaced online, sparking widespread attention and debate on social media.
Expressing her disappointment over the trolling and backlash amid her ongoing row with Chahal, Taniya said she continues to be targeted and humiliated on social media, while no questions are being asked about the cricketer.
Chahal has now filed a defamation case against Taniya. The actress, known for her work in OTT web series and social media content, confirmed the development during a recent interaction with paparazzi.
Reacting to the controversy, Taniya said, “Itna jyaada viral ho jaayega idea nahi tha. Aur mujhe hi jyaada troll kar rahe hai yaar. Main hi badnaam ho rahi hu. Unka toh theek hai, kuch ho hi nahi raha. Defamation ka case unhone mere upar bheja. (Didn’t know it would go viral. I am the one facing trolls, getting humiliated. Nobody is saying anything against him. He has sent a defamation case against me.)”
Taniya described Chahal’s defamation case as “ridiculous” and “stupid”, saying it does not make sense to her. She also clarified that she had no intention of maligning his image.
Taniya added that Chahal had messaged her calling her “cute”, but despite that, she continues to face trolling online.
She maintained that she holds him in high regard, even referring to him as the pride of India.
In a subsequent paparazzi interaction, Taniya alleged that Chahal’s PR team had asked her to delete the video.
