Moscow: The world watched with amazement a shouting match between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky in the media’s presence at the White House on Friday.
The Ukrainian President walked out of White House abruptly without a possible minerals deal being finalised and a joint press conference cancelled after Trump and Vice-President J D Vance accused Zelensky of risking a third World War and also disrespecting America.
Amid the catastrophic, and quite unprecedented meeting between two heads of state, Russia on Saturday described Zelensky’s visit to Washington as a “complete failure” even as Europe and several other nations backed the Ukraine President.
In a statement, Russian Foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused Zelensky of being “obsessed with continuing the war” in the region, reported AFP.
“The visit of the head of the neo-Nazi regime, V Zelensky, to Washington on February 28 is a complete political and diplomatic failure of the Kyiv regime,” Zakharova stated.
She added that Russia’s goals in Ukraine remain unchanged after Zelensky’s trip to Washington.
“Russia’s unchanging goals remain the demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine, as well as the recognition of the existing realities on the ground,” Zakharova claimed.
It’s more than three years since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives so far.
Trump, who had said he would end the war in no time, found out that’s going to be easier said than done with Zelensky turning out to be a tough nut to crack and refusing to proceed on any deal or ceasefire with Russia without security guarantees.
