Zoom To Temporarily Lift 40-Minute Limit On Its Video Calls: Know When & Why

Popular video-calling service Zoom will temporarily lift its 40-minute limit on all free calls made via its platform.

This relaxation will be applicable from midnight on November 26 till 6 am on November 27 on Thanksgiving night, so that families are able to enjoy uninterrupted video calls with family members and friends.

“As a thank you to our customers, we will be lifting the 40-minute limit for all meetings globally from midnight ET (eastern time, US) on November 26 through 6 am ET on November 27 so your family gatherings don’t get cut short,” Zoom announced on Twitter.

The unlimited relaxation for the six-hour window will be applicable on calls made via Zoom’s free tier globally. So users will be able to enjoy benefits of this concession irrespective of whether they live in the US or not, or if they celebrate Thanksgiving or not.

Thus, users in India can also avail of unrestricted free video calls on Zoom – from 10.30 am IST on November 27 to 4.30 pm IST on November 27.

This will be welcome news especially for people in the US, who celebrate Thanksgiving with great enthusiasm and fervour on the fourth Thursday of November every year. With coronavirus cases rising alarmingly in a second wave in many countries including the US, outdoor celebrations and visiting friends and families will be restricted and they will have to make do with virtual celebration, with video calls being the most common mode.
