Guwahati: The doubts over the cause of Zubeen Garg’s death refuse to go away. Now, it has been decided that a fresh autopsy will be conducted as part of ongoing investigation amid allegations of foul play in the singer’s demise in Singapore.

The earlier post-mortem examination was done in Singapore, the report of which is awaited.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said at a press conference on Monday that the second autopsy will be carried out at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday morning, under the supervision of an AIIMS Guwahati team, following public demands for clarity over the singer’s death.

The decision was finalised after Zubeen’s family gave consent for the process.

Zubeen’s mortal remains will be taken to GMCH at 7.30 am, with the autopsy examination expected to take one to two hours.

Zubeen’s body will thereafter be taken to Kamarkuchi NC village, where his funeral will take place. The cremation site is located on a 3.3-acre government land where some local people had set up a plant nursery, but willingly gave it up for Zubeen, the chief minister said.

The renowned Assamese singer passed away in Singapore after suffering a seizure while swimming at Lazarus Island last week. Initial reports mentioned that Zubeen died in a scuba diving accident.

However, the death certificate issued by Singapore authorities said Zubeen had died due to drowning while swimming.

Biswa Sarma told mediapersons on Sunday that in the death certificate sent by Singapore High Commission, cause of death mentioned is drowning.

However, it is different from the post-mortem report, which the government is trying to obtain as soon as possible.

“This is not a post-mortem report. The post-mortem report is different from the death certificate. We will send the documents to CID. The Chief Secretary of the Assam Government is contacting the Singapore Ambassador to get the post-mortem report as soon as possible,” ANI quoted the chief minister as saying.
