Guwahati: Musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who was present during the controversial yacht trip in Singapore linked to Zubeen Garg’s untimely and tragic death, has been detained by the special investigation team (SIT) probing the case.
Goswami has been taken for questioning, but police officials have not yet disclosed the nature of allegations against him.
The 10-member SIT formed by Assam government, headed by Special DGP M.P. Gupta, are working with multiple leads as it tries to reconstruct the chain of events that led to Zubeen’s sudden demise.
Entrepreneur and cultural activist Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organiser of Northeast India Festival which Zubeen was attending in Singapore, and the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma are also under the SIT’s scanner.
Mahanta has reportedly contacted the CID, expressing willingness to surrender. According to sources, his arrest is imminent.
Earlier in the day, SIT conducted raids at the residences of Zubeen’s manager and also Mahanta.
Hundreds of Zubeen’s fans, who suspect foul play in his death, assembled outside Siddharth’s house and demanded his arrest.
Zubeen, who died of drowning on September 19, was cremated four days later with full state honours including a 21-gun salute.
