Keonjhar: A one-year-old girl was admitted to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital on Thursday when her condition deteriorated after being branded with hot iron to cure stomach ailment.
According to reports, the parents, Basu Patra and Dulari Patra, took the girl child to a quack, who pressed red-hot iron on his stomach at several places in a bid to cure her.
When her condition deteriorated, she was initially admitted to Barbil hospital and then shifted to the district hospital.
Keonjhar has witnessed 16 such cases, involving children, in the last two months following superstition that it is a cure for various illnesses.
