10 Empty Buses Burn Down In Major Fire In Odisha’s Koraput
Koraput: As many as 10 empty buses were burnt down in a major fire in Odisha’s Koraput district on Friday evening.
According to sources, the fire broke out in the bus terminal at Jeypore in the district. The buses were procured by the district administration to run as city bus in the town. As the city bus service had not been started, the vehicles were parked at the terminal.
As the fire, which is suspected to have started from a bus, started to spread to other stationary buses in the terminal, the locals informed the Fire Brigade.
Two Fire vehicles from Jeypore and Boriguma rushed to the terminal and started bringing the fire under control. At least 10 buses had already turned to ashes by the time they started their operation. At least 30 buses were parked at the terminal.
However, no loss of life has been reported in the incident as the buses were empty and the terminal was deserted at the time.
The city bus operator had not started the services due to some dispute with the administration. The administration had decided six months back to sell the buses, which had already been damaged for lack of maintenance, at scrap value, the sources said.
