Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards strengthening science education among tribal students, President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday virtually inaugurated Space Labs in 75 selected Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), including 13 in Odisha.
The chosen institutions include EMRS Kotpad and Kundra in Koraput district, EMRS Mathili in Malkangiri, EMRS Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi, EMRS Patana in Keonjhar, and eight EMRSs across Mayurbhanj district—namely Rairangpur, Thakurmunda, Baripada, Badasahi, Kaptipada, Koliana, Rasgovindpur, and Udala
The initiative was launched in the presence of Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Jual Oram and Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey. Students, teachers, principals, and key officials from EMRS institutions across various states participated virtually in the grand inauguration ceremony.
The newly established Space Labs are designed to nurture innovation, critical thinking, and a robust scientific temper among students. By enabling them to explore advanced technologies first-hand, the initiative aims to provide practical exposure to emerging fields like space science, astronomy, robotics, and satellite technology, inspiring a new generation of tribal youth to pursue careers in science, engineering, and research, an official release said.
