Byelection in Nuapada has been necessitated because of BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia’s demise on September 8.
A four-time MLA from Nuapada, the late Rajendra Dholakia had defeated Independent candidate Ghasiram Majhi by around 11,000 votes in the 2024 Assembly polls. He had served as a minister in the BJD government under then-CM Naveen Patnaik.
Interestingly, the ruling BJP has picked Dholakia’s son Jay as its candidate for the upcoming byelection.
