Bhubaneswar: Two months after the body of a woman was recovered near Daya river, police in Bhubaneswar on Thursday arrested her alleged lover for strangulating her to death.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Parida of Kujang area in Jagatsinghpur. He was working as a security guard at a hotel on Cuttack Road.
According to police sources, an unidentified decomposed body of a woman was found near the river bank on January 28. The investigation led police to a missing complaint filed by one Banita Digal of Kandhamala at Khandagiri police station. Digal had alleged that her sister Sneha Behera aka Aparna (30), who was working at Barmunda, had been missing since January 10. Meanwhile, the postmortem report attributed the death to asphyxia due to constriction/compression of the neck.
The subsequent investigation and analysis of technical evidence revealed that Chandan and Sneha were present at the same spot when the incident took place.
The sources further stated that the duo had visited Dhauli Stupa on that day. Later, they went to Dhauli Chhak where an argument ensued between them as Chandan suspected Sneha of having another affair since she was constantly talking to someone over phone. Both of them continued walking towards the river embankment on the side of Basuaghai village. Chandan then slapped Sneha hard in a fit of rage. As she fell on the ground, he strangled her using her dupatta and then left the spot, leaving the body along the road.
Before identifying the accused, police also had to deal with a person, who tried to mislead the investigation by planting a wallet at the spot. Mitu Parida of Chandanpur in Puri plotted to implicate Ramesh Sahu of Jajpur in the case since he was having an affair with his wife and left a wallet with documents pertaining to him there. The truth came to light after police interrogated Sahu, following which Parida was arrested, the sources added.
