Mumbai: Two suspected terrorists were arrested from Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly plotting a terror attack in Delhi, and taken to the national Capital for further interrogation.
The accused, identified as Mossab Ahdam alias Kalam Kalyan and Mohammad Hamad Kollara, were nabbed in a joint operation conducted by Delhi Police’s Special Cell and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
According to officials, both men were radicalised and had links with multiple terror organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Islamic State. Police believe the suspects were also associated with online extremist networks ‘Mission Khilafat’ and ‘Soldiers of Prophet’.
The duo had allegedly been brainwashed by online handlers, and were in contact with one Abu Hufezah, who is believed to be linked to JeM and involved in online recruitment activities.
As per preliminary investigation, the accused duo was learning how to assemble improvised explosive devices and allegedly planning to carry out an attack in Delhi using a bomb concealed inside a toy car.
Investigators are also probing the duo’s possible link to a pan-India module.
Five minors in Mumbai, suspected to have been influenced by ISIS propaganda, have reportedly come under the Special Cell’s radar.
Police hope to establish the full extent of the terror network through sustained interrogation of the arrested suspects.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police’s Special Cell detained a youth from Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh for suspected involvement in terrorist activities.
Identified as Rizwan Ahmad, from Chhawani area of Padrauna town, he came under the scanner during an investigation of a case registered by the Special Cell.
He has been taken to the national Capital, and his mobile phone, laptop and other electronic devices seized for examination.
