Berhampur: Two minor girls were allegedly gangraped by four youths in Golanthara area of Odisha’s Ganjam district. A hunt has been launched by the police to trace and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident, which took place three days ago, came to light after family members of the survivors lodged a complaint with the police.
Sources said that the minor cousins had been to attend a wedding event in the village on June 3 evening but went missing in the middle of the festivities, leaving the family members worried.
A frantic search for the two girls was launched in the area by the family members, who later learnt that two youths present in the same event had lured the girls to an undisclosed location on the village outskirts. The youths and two other accomplices had then taken turns to sexually assault the minor girls before abandoning them in an isolated place.
The girls were finally found by family members who took them home. After the girls narrated their ordeal, a complaint was lodged with the police. Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
The statements of the minor girls were recorded and their medical examination was being conducted,, police said.
