Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in Odisha amid the prevailing sultry weather conditions with southwest monsoon remaining stagnant over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri and Sandhead island for the past one week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for summer storms, accompanied by thunder/lightning and strong wind, and hot and humid conditions till June 10. It further stated that there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 24 hours, following which the mercury levels may rise by 2-3 degree Celsius during the subsequent 3 days.
Hot and humid weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts during this period.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on June 6.
Similar weather conditions may continue in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts on June 7; Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput on June 8; Malkangiri and Koraput on June 9; and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Gajapati and Ganjam on June 10.
