Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police detained two youths from West Bengal following an alleged attempt to kidnap a minor girl from Dumduma in Bhubaneswar, late on Sunday.
They have been identified as Gopal Majumdar and Mrityunjay Ghosh from Medinipur. The duo worked as labourers at a local hotel.
According to sources, they sedated the girl before attempting to abduct her while she was unconscious. Locals intervened, rescued the girl, and handed the suspects to the police. The accused were heavily intoxicated during the incident. The girl was later sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical examination and treatment. While sexual assault is not confirmed, locals suspect it may have been the intent.
How the girl came in contact with the accused duo was not immediately known.
Police are conducting medical and forensic examinations, questioning the suspects, and investigating their backgrounds for any prior similar incidents.
