2016 Double Murder: Chhattisgarh Police Take Ex-Odisha MLA On 3-Day Remand
Jharsuguda: The Raigarh Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Wednesday allowed Chakradhar Nagar Police to take expelled BJD leader and former Brajrajnagar MLA Anup Sai on three-day remand.
Sai was arrested on February 13 as the prime accused in the brutal murder of Kalpana Das and her 14-year-old daughter in May 2016. Their mutilated bodies were found near Sakambari plant on Hamirpur Marg near Raigarh in Chhattisgarh on May 7.
While producing Sai and his driver Bardhan Toppo in the court on Tuesday, police had prayed for seven-day remand of the former for further interrogation and narco analysis test. The court had then deferred the ruling to the following day.
The CJM, however, has not yet decided on the narco test of the former MLA, sources said, adding that a decision on this matter will be taken after one week.
The court also granted one-day remand of Toppo, who was arrested on February 14 for his alleged complicity in the double murder.
The court has directed police to produce Sai before it on February 22, the sources added.
The former MLA had allegedly bludgeoned the woman with whom he was in a live-in relation till 2016 when the latter insisted on marriage and demanded a share in his properties. He then got his driver to run an SUV over the bodies to conceal their identities and pass it off as a case of accident, police sources said.
To build a watertight case, a police team from the neighbouring state is camping at Brajarajnagar and collecting information from locals regarding the double murder.
