Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw 22 cases of death by suicides, involving students of government and private schools, colleges, and universities, since June 2024, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed on Monday.
Replying to a query by MLA Sofia Firdous in the state Assembly, Majhi said that such cases were reported from 15 districts in the state.
According to the district-wise data shared by the CM, the highest of four cases were reported in Rayagada, following by three in Keonjhar (3) and two cases each in Bhubaneswar UPD and Balangir.
Cuttack also reported one case of death by suicide.
While four persons were arrested in connection with the death of a second year student of Integrated BEd at Fakir Mohan College by self-immolation, one accused each is behind bars in connection with two deaths by suicides at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Roland Pharmaceutical Institution at Khosasingh and Bhadrak Autonomous College.
Another four persons have been arrested for the three deaths by suicide in Keonjhar districts.
