26-Year-Old Rape Convict Ends Life In Jail In Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: A 26-year-old rape convict was found hanging with a towel from a tree on the Jharsuguda sub-jail premises on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Subash Rohidas. He was a resident of Brundamal under Badmal police station limits in Jharsuguda.

According to sources, he was found by staff and taken to the jail medical facility. Late, he was shifted to district headquarters hospital (DHH), where he was declared dead.

“At around 2.30 pm, Rohidas had gone towards the rear of ward 7A and with a help of his towel hanged himself,” Jharsuguda sub-jail in-charge and sub-assistant jailer Karna Oram told TOI.

On getting the information, local police arrived at the spot and recovered the body. A probe was also initiated after the body was sent for post-mortem.

Notably, he was arrested in 2015 and was convicted on January 27 to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000.
