Brahmapur: More than 27 fishing trawlers from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh were stranded along Odisha’s Ganjam coast as they were unable to return due to rough sea conditions triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
According to information, the trawlers were unable to proceed towards Kakinada because of the turbulent sea and took shelter at the Aryapalli fishing jetty.
After receiving information about the stranded boats, the Ganjam district administration extended necessary assistance to the fishermen onboard. Officials are closely monitoring the safety of the fishermen and providing support as required.
Officials said all crew members are currently safe and will depart for Andhra Pradesh as soon as weather conditions stabilise.
However, some trawlers are still reported to be in the sea. Fisheries Department officials said efforts are underway to bring the remaining boats safely to the shore.
Citing safety protocols, the Marine Fisheries Department issued a fresh advisory urging all regional and local fishermen across Ganjam to strictly refrain from venturing into the sea until turbulent conditions subside.
