Bhubaneswar: Three scientists of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) are among 20-odd from Odisha to feature in the world ranking of top two per cent scientists for 2022 drawn up by Stanford University, USA.
In-charge Director of ILS Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, scientists Sanjeeb Sahoo and Amaresh Panda have made it to the list for their research in the field of drug discovery, biochemistry and molecular biology.
While Mukherjee is working on traditional medicine-inspired drug discovery and development from Indian medicinal plants with major emphasis on their validation, formulation, and standardisation, Sahoo’s nano-technology-based targeted drug delivery to tumour tissues focuses on using techniques to kill cancer cells in a lower dose with less toxicity to the normal tissue.
Panda’s research group has been working on the role of poorly characterised circular RNAs in muscle regeneration and insulin biosynthesis.
Sixteen researchers of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University here are also among the world’s most influential scientific minds’ in 2022. Nine of them — Prof. (Dr) Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, eminent neurosurgeon and currently SOA’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr) Pradipta Kishore Dash, Prof. Kulamani Parida, Prof. Lala Behari Sukla, Prof. RNP Choudhary, Prof. Goutam Rath, Prof. Niharbala Devi, Dr Manoj Kumar Nayak and Dr Satya Ranjan Mishra — have figured in the list for three years (2000-2022).
A total of 2,273 scientists from India are on Stanford University’s list, which is based on citations, citations to research papers in different authorship positions, the impact of the publications, and composite indicators among other metrics.
