Bhadrak: A day after the alleged thrashing of a woman at Chandbali police station, Bhadrak SP Varun Guntupalli on Thursday transferred three police officers, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), to the district police headquarters.
The SP had earlier directed Chandbali IIC Panchanan Mohanty to conduct a detailed investigation into a viral video in which some police officers were seen dragging Mita Sethi (23) of Barua village from Chandbali police station. She was also allegedly beaten with a plastic pipe.
The woman accused the cops of assaulting her, tearing her clothes and manhandling her.
According to sources, the incident took place when Mita had come to the police station to meet her husband Sambhu who had arrived there to file a complaint pertaining to a matter. She was accompanied by her four-year-old child and 14-year-old sister-in-law.
A fight allegedly broke out after Mita threw a shoe case in the police station and misbehaved with the personnel. It then took an ugly turn and constable Rabi Sethi and ASI Nepal Saha dragged the woman out of the police station by grabbing her by both her legs and hands. When Mita’s sister-in-law protested, she too was allegedly manhandled.
Chandbali SDPO Kartik Chandra Mallick said Mita and her husband are divorced. Mita came to the police station to collect alimony from Sambhu while he was filing a complaint, he added.
