Raipur: Two Indians and one foreign national have been placed under 21-day home isolation after returning to Durg, in Chhattisgarh, from Ebola virus-affected countries in Africa.
It’s a precautionary measure and the trio has not shown symptoms of the disease with no history of contact with Ebola-infected persons, PTI reported.
Durg Collector Abhijeet Singh said one woman arrived in Durg from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on May 31, while the two others reached Bhilai on June 2 from Ethiopia and Uganda.
The foreigner is a Ugandan citizen.
“As none of them has symptoms and there is no history of contact, all three have been placed under home isolation for 21 days. They are currently asymptomatic and in good health,” Singh said.
Health officials have been monitoring the trio’s condition through telephonic follow-up twice a day and collecting information about their health status every morning and evening, the Collector informed.
If any of the travellers experiences any discomfort or symptom during the monitoring period, they have been advised to immediately inform the tracing team, health department, control room or the office of Durg Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Manoj Dani.
He informed that international passengers are being clinically screened at airports and classified into different risk categories based on symptoms and contact history.
Category 1 comprises travellers with no symptom and no contact history, Category 2 includes those with no symptom but a contact history, while symptomatic travellers come under Category 3.
All three returnees to Durg district are classified as Category 1.
Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
No confirmed case of Ebola virus infection has been found in India so far.
However, the Indian Health Ministry, in coordination with state authorities, has been maintaining active surveillance and standard public health protocols so that the Ebola infection is not ‘imported’ into India.
