Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 toll in Odisha touched 8,329 on Saturday with four more deaths being confirmed in the last 24 hours.
According to Health Department sources, two deaths have been reported from Khurda district (one from Bhubaneswar) and one each from Cuttack and Nayagarh districts.
Among the four who died was a 55-year-old man from Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis.
A 51-year-old woman from Cuttack district with comorbidities also died, as also a 78-year-old man from Khurda district who was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
The fourth victim was an 85-year-old man from Nayagarh district. He also had hypertension.
Odisha has reported 6,444 COVID-19 deaths during the second wave against 1,876 in the first wave last year.
There were 346 COVID-19 casualties in the state in September. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered in August, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June 1,272 and May 737, said sources in the Health Department.
The second wave of the pandemic has claimed the lives of 43 children and adolescents in Odisha. As many as 13 of these deaths were reported between August 10 and 31.
