Berhampur: A day after a four-year-old girl was found dead in an under-construction Anganwadi centre in Patapur area of Odisha’s Ganjam district, police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly raping and murdering her.
Police said the suspect, identified as Kalia Nahak, allegedly watched explicit obscene videos before sexually assaulting the girl and then killing her.
The accused, stated to be a distant relative (uncle) of the deceased girl, lured the girl to the under-construction building where he committed the crime.
According to sources, the girl went missing on Friday evening from her maternal uncle’s house at Khallingi village, where she had gone to participate in ‘Thakurani Yatra’. The family members had also lodged the complaint with police.
On Saturday, locals spotted the body and informed police, which then sent it to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for postmortem.
