Islamabad: Amid the ongoing tension between the two neighbours escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, reports claimed that Pakistan accused India of suddenly releasing water into the Jhelum River without informing Pakistani authorities on Saturday.
The sudden surge in the water levels of the river was witnessed near Muzaffarabad in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the Dunya News reported. This reportedly prompted the local administration to impose a water emergency in Hattian Bala, which is around 40 km from Muzaffarabad on Jhelum riverbanks.

The reports also claimed that locals were warned through announcements in mosques, triggering panic among locals.
The water rose through the Chakothi area of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after it flowed from Kashmir’s Anantnag, the report stated. Pakistani authorities called it “complete violation of international rules and water agreements”.
The allegations came after India decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, in response to Pahalgam terror attack allegedly carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists.
The Indian government had declared that the treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan “credibly and irreversibly” abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
