Baripada: At least 46 girl students became ill after having dinner at the ST and SC Development Department (SSD) hostel of Manatri Girls High School in Badasahi block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
According to sources, eight students were admitted to a health centre at Manatri, while 11 are receiving treatment at Badasahi hospital following the incident that took place after dinner on Tuesday night. The other 27 students were provided treatment at the school hostel.
Mayurbhanj ADM Netrananda Mallick said the district administration was informed about the incident on Thursday. Soon after receiving the information, District Collector Hemakanta Sai visited the school.
The district administration is fully aware of the situation and the students are currently undergoing treatment, Mallick said.
The government has directed all districts to maintain proper hygiene, especially in food and other areas, he said.
The Baripada District Collector has ordered a detailed investigation to find out why the students became ill. The inquiry will also check the condition of the affected students and ensure that they receive proper treatment.
The exact reason behind the illness has not been confirmed yet. Officials are expected to know the cause after the inquiry is completed. The inquiry will also check whether the illness was caused by the food served to the girls.
