Bhubaneswar: The postmortem examination of a patient, who died at the mental health department of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Kataka city, has confirmed multiple injuries on his body.
According to sources, the postmortem report also showed that the deceased, identified as Srikanta Das (34) of Jajpur district, was suffering from heart ailments.
The authorities are now waiting for the viscera report to ascertain the exact cause of his death on September 30.
It was alleged that Das succumbed to injuries after being assaulted by the hospital staff, including security personnel. His family members had lodged a complaint in this regard at the Mangalabag police station.
Das had been admitted to the mental health department of the hospital on September 28. He died under mysterious circumstances while undergoing treatment on September 30.
His brother alleged that Das was beaten mercilessly by the hospital staff and security personnel. There were injury marks all over his body, including his hands, legs and ears, he claimed.
Based on the complaint, the police had registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the patient.
