Kendrapada: Another accused was arrested on Monday in connection with the alleged misconduct involving woman sarpanch Chameli Ojha at Mahakalapada block office in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
The accused, identified as Sukanta Swain, was taken into custody by Mahakalapada police on charges of misbehaving with the woman sarpanch of Tikhiri inside the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO) during an incident that occurred on June 11, police sources said.
The alleged incident at the BDO’s chamber had triggered strong reactions from various quarters and became a major topic of discussion across the state.
Police had earlier arrested three persons in connection with the case. With the arrest of Sukanta Swain, the total number of accused taken into custody has now gone up to four.
Police said Chameli Ojha, sarpanch of Tikhiri in Mahakalapada block, had alleged that seven persons misbehaved with her in the BDO’s office during the recent incident.
Earlier, accused Parthasarathi Samantaray, Himanshu Pradhan, and Biswajit Mohapatra, had been arrested in connection with the case.
The investigation is continuing to identify and trace the remaining accused.
