Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a doctor has been arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a woman and cheating her of gold ornaments worth over Rs 30 lakh.
The accused, identified as Abinash Mohanty, was arrested by the Airfield Police of Bhubaneswar from Umerkote following detailed probe into a complaint lodged by the woman.
He has been accused of cheating, financial fraud, sexual exploitation and blackmailing a woman after allegedly luring her into a relationship with a false promise of marriage.
According to the complaint filed at Airfield Police Station, the doctor allegedly developed an online relationship with the woman and later established an intimate affair.
The woman has accused the doctor of maintaining physical relationship with her and subsequently betraying her trust.
She further alleged that the accused cheated her by taking away gold ornaments worth around Rs 30 lakh.
Based on her complaint, the police launched an investigation and tracked down the accused, where he was taken into custody.
According to police sources, the accused doctor was serving at a government medical facility in Sanakhemundi area of Ganjam district.
Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the circumstances that led to the relationship between the accused and the victim as also the alleged financial fraud.
