53 Girl Students In Odisha’s Sundargarh Test COVID Positive
Sundargarh: After 22 first-year MBBS students of VIMSAR-Burla, 53 of a government-aided girl’s high school in Odisha’s Sundargarh have tested positive for COVID-19.
Those found infected were hostel boarders studying in Class VIII, IX and X. They have been isolated and the school shut for a week, the headmistress informed on Tuesday.
COVID test of the students was conducted after the majority of them showed symptoms of cold and cough, she added.
“Swab samples of all 624 students were sent for COVID-19 test after a student contracted the virus on November 19 and 53 among them were found positive. A nurse has been engaged at the school to monitor their health conditions,” said District Education Officer (DEO) Amulya Pradhan.
Notably, nine hostel boarders of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district had also tested positive for the virus on Sunday.

Physical classes for Class X students resumed in government, government-aided and private educational institutions on July 26 after a gap of more than three months due to the restrictions enforced to contain the spread of Covid-19. Students of Class IX began attending school on August 16. Hostels for Class IX students also began operating the same day.
Classroom teaching for Class VII students began on October 25.
