Bhubaneswar: After nearly three years, there has been an addition to the yellow anaconda family at the Nandankanan Zoological Park.
As many as seven yellow anacondas were born on Sunday, to parents who were brought from Chennai’s Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in October 2019.
It latest breeding is a significant step in the Nandankanan zoo’s reptile breeding programme.
The zoo now has 2 adult males, 2 adult females and 10 young yellow anacondas.
One more female is expected to deliver soon at the zoo located on the outskirts of the state’s capital city.
The last breeding took place in July 2022. One hatchling saw the light of the day on July 6 and 8 more more on July 8, 2022.
Two rare species of yellow anaconda died in Nandankanan zoo on back-to-back days in December 2023.
