New Delhi: Imagine a batter smashing a six and, within moments, collapsing on the pitch and dying.
The utter uncertainty and fragility of life was seen once again, this time on a cricket field.
A video, which has been gaining traction on social media, shows a batter settling in his crease and pulling the ball over mid-wicket for a six. He then walks a few steps down the pitch and squats. His partner at the non-striker’s joins him. Within a few seconds, the man collapses on the ground.
As his partner turns towards him, other players and teammates rush to the middle of the pitch to find out what went wrong.
Seeing him lose unconscious, some of those who rush to his help try to revive him by applying CPR. Their efforts proved to be futile as he failed to regain consciousness and died of a heart attack.

The victim has been identified as Harjeet Singh.
He was playing a match at the DAV School ground in Punjab’s Ferozepur.
Exactly a year ago, a similar incident took place in Mumbai, where a 42-year-old man died during a cricket match. In an almost identical case, Ram Ganesh Tewar collapsed soon after hitting a six in match organised at a farmhouse in Kashmira area. Tewar was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
