70% Of COVID-19 Deaths In These 5 States Of India

Bhubaneswar: Five states account for 70 per cent of the total COVID deaths in the country.

This was disclosed at the Government of India media briefing on COVID-19 on Thursday.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths at 37.39 per cent of the total fatalities in India, followed by Tamil Nadu at 11.16 per cent, Karnataka at 8.83 per cent, Delhi at 6.65 per cent and Andhra Pradesh at 6.12 per cent.

While Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have witnessed a decrease in COVID-19 deaths in the last three weeks, there has been a rise in fatalities in Karnataka and Delhi.

However, 49 deaths per million (population) of India is among the lowest in the world, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said.

In Odisha, the fatality rate is 0.46 per cent, which is lower than the national average of 1.75 per cent. The state has so far reported 113411 positive cases and 522 among them have succumbed to the infection.
