8 COVID-19 Vaccines In Clinical Trial: WHO
The World Health Organisation (WHO)’s database reveals that a total of eight vaccines are in the clinical trial phase while another 110 in other stages of development.
Health institutions and phrama companies in United States, China, and Germnay are leading the vaccine development.
Chinese health official, Zhang Wenhong on Saturday said a successful vaccine against COVID-19 is expected to be administered to humans as early as March 2021.
“There are uncertainties in developing vaccines. Coronaviruses, including MERS and SARS, have not seen a particularly reliable one so far… the best scenario is that if one of the vaccines that people are making is effective and progressing relatively fast, it should be available as soon as possible from March to June next year,” Zhang told Global Times.
US President Donald Trump had earlier said that he believes a vaccine will be ready by end of this year.
Globally, nearly 50 lakh people have contracted coronavirus and more than 3 lakh succumbed to the virus.
