8 students arrested for ransacking BPUT acting VC’s house

Bhubaneswar: As many as eight students were arrested for allegedly ransacking the house of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) technical education secretary and acting Vice Chancellor (VC) Sanjay Singh on Tuesday night.

Those arrested were sent to Jharapara Jail this morning after a court here rejected their bail plea.

According to reports, over 50 students under the banner of All Odisha BPUT Students’ Association damaged the gate and name plate at Singh’s house demanding postponement of their semester examination.

One student was reportedly injured after police used baton to disperse the agitating students after they went berserk during their protest. He was admitted later to Capital Hospital for treatment.

The BPUT students had also staged a demonstration before Technical Education and Skill Development Minister Usha Devi’s official residence seeking her immediate intervention to sort out the issue.
