82 OSME Students Penalised For Ragging In Odisha

Keonjhar: The authorities of Odisha School of Mining Engineering (OSME) in Keonjhar have imposed penalty of Rs 1,000 each on 82 students for their alleged involvement in ragging their juniors.

According to reports, the OSME authorities have penalised the students of third year engineering course and residents of a hostel on the institute’s premises following allegation of ragging.

The action was iniatited on the basis of written complaint lodged by  some students of second year alleging ragging by their seniors who are studying in third year.

Following the complaint, the authorities conducted a probe into the matter and decided to impose the penalty of Rs 1,000 each on 82 students, sources said.

This apart, these students have been barred from taking books from the institute’s library for fifth and final semesters. The library officials have been given instruction in this regard.

The students concerned have also given a written undertaking to the college authorities that they will not indulge in ragging or such activities in future.
