Sambalpur: Nine passengers were injured as a bus in which they were travelling overturned at Nuapada Chhak on NH-55 in Charmal area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district in the early hours of Monday.
According to sources, the accident took place when the bus, carrying around 50 passengers, veered off the road and overturned as the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn. The bus was en route to Hirakud from Bhubaneswar.
The injured passengers were initially taken to Rairakhol sub-division hospital and two among them later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, as their health condition deteriorated.
On being informed, Charmal police reached the spot and started investigating the matter. ““We received information about the accident around 4.30 am. The accident took place in a service road and it is being suspected the driver had dosed off,” Charmal police station IIC Chandramohan Singh told mediapersons.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is a diversion near Nuapada chhak due to road construction and the service road at the spot is relatively narrow.
