Bhubaneswar: Everyone in society wants to live a life of respect and dignity, which is difficult for the differently-abled people.

However, more than 15 visually impaired persons and divyangs have challenged their situation by doing business in a market building here from 5 pm to 9 pm.

As per a media report, they are getting some help from the government, but that is not enough to meet their daily needs. So they decided to help themselves. While some of them earn money by operating weighing machines, the others sell toys.

“We are are now self-dependent. With this income, we can also fulfill the basic needs of our families,” said Ramesh Mohapatra.

Ramesh hails from Athagarh and has four members in his family.

Though he is a visually impaired, he is educated. “Due to some family problems, I could not do a job,” he added.

“Earlier, people thought that we were burden on others. That was really painful for us. Then we decided to do something for our livelihood. With strong willpower, we are able to do these businesses,” said another visually-impaired person.

These persons will inspire other divyangs, who have accepted begging as a way of life.
