Antiviral Drug Remdisivir Gets FDA Nod In USA
New York: The US Food and Drug Administration approved antiviral drug Remdisivir for treating the COVID-19 patients in the country.
The drug reportedly shortened the recovery time by 31 per cent or about four days for the patients admitted to the hospital.
Having manufactured by Gilead Sciences, a California based company, the FDA has allowed the use of the medication only during the pandemic.
Remdesivir, the antiviral drug was found to kill viruses like Ebola, Marburg, MERS and SARS. The medication disables virus RNA (ribonucleic acid) replication (through RNA, coronavirus replicates itself)
However, the drug failed the human trial stage for treating the Ebola virus in 2018-19.
