Indian Railways Seeks Number Of Shramik Special Trains Needed To Transport Migrants From States
New Delhi: The Indian Railways has asked the states to provide the projected number of Shramik Special trains and tentative schedule for movement of the trains for transportation of the stranded migrant workers in other states.
In a letter to chief secretaries of the states, Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board said the Railways has already transported around 52 lakh stranded migrants to their destinations in 3840 Shramik Special trains as per the COVID-19 protocols till date.
Yadav said the details are required in the wake of Supreme Court order to the Railways to furnish the estimated time period and the plan for transportation of the stranded workers. The apex court issued the direction in view of the difficulties faced by the workers in different parts of the country.
He also said the Railways will provide additional Shramik Special trains if required by the states as per their schedule.
